How I Make a Comic
Here's how I make my comics. As you can see, it's kinda different from how others do it. Which might explain a lot.
The first thing I do when I make a comic is plan the script. After that, I plan how the objects and poses will look in a sketchbook. Then I plan the frames. The old dimensions per panel for a 3-panel strip were 6.8 x 7.2 cm.; now they're 8 x 9 cm. I also used to draw each set of frames by hand; now I have templates four 3- and 4-panel strips that I print out as needed. Other panel configurations I do by hand. After that, I draw in the basic shapes with a 3H pencil.
Then, I draw in the rest of the shapes and details. I use a 3H pencil because I press down when I draw and I'm left-handed, so pencil-lead and ink smearing is a problem for me. The 3H pencil gives a balance of erasability and smear-proofness.
Then, I ink the outlines. I use a felt-tip pen on the objects and a rollerball pen on the people.
After that, I use a tag-team of a fine-point felt-tip pen and a fine-tip ballpoint to do the rest of the inking.
Now, I erase the pencil work and and use the outlining pens to fill in inked-in fields. If you fill in before you erase, the ink tends to smear.
Then I scan it into the computer and edit any blemishes with MS Paint. Then I load it onto my FTP server and it's ready for the 'Net.
